Hey Josh!

My name’s Andrew and I’m going to be interning with FSD Kakamega for 3 months this fall. It’s about two weeks away from my departure and I came across your blog just recently. In a way, it looks like I may be picking up where you left off – from the looks of it, I’ve been given the same host family (Joyce & Sylvester) and I’ll also be working with KES during my time there.

I’d love to connect sometime over email or something. I thought maybe I could ask FSD for your email address, but thought this would be a good first introduction. If you get the chance, would you mind shooting me a quick email at my email (I think which you should be able to see on the comment) and we can take it from there? It’d be great to get more of your thoughts on the trip and since you have all the experience right now, I’m sure I could learn a lot from you even before I leave and during my time there.

Good stuff, man. I agree with DJ…blows my mind that they don’t know how to create a “dynamic” spreadsheet. I like how you’re being pragmatic as opposed to taking an over-zealous approach and trying to implement plans that ultimately wouldn’t be sustainable. Great job!

Best post yet Josh, I loved it. Like you said, your plans are simple but are definitely what’s necessary. The excel spreadsheet blows my mind. Let me know if I can help at all with that (sounds silly, I know, but excel’s a really powerful program. If you need help doing anything in it I would love to try and figure it out). Good luck with the Boda Bodas (reminds me of that Nickelodeon show from back in the day, Gulla Gulla Island?)

I am so jealous of the experience you’re having. This sounds like an unbelievable, truly life-changing experience. Make the best out of all of it, dude. This is amazing opportunity you’ve been given to help enrich a region of poorer rural people to the best of your ability. I am so jealous.

JOSH- Amazing. You’re turning into quite the little Hemingway. Sounds like you’re having an interesting cultural encounter over there, eating cow intestines and holding hands with guys; you’re going to come back a changed man. Very informative. We are all interested to learn from your experience. Can you tell us a little about the tribes in that area. Is it homgeneous or are there several different tribes? There has been news recently about tribal conflicts in Kenya.
